TRADER TRANSITS

Mars in Scorpio

As covered in our publication, When to Buy and When to Sell: Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (available on Amazon), and our Planet Power – Mars blog, dated 5-21-24, the planet Mars plays a significant role in the financial astrology arena. Mars symbolizes aggression, laser focus, and a full-speed ahead mentality. Its upcoming ingress into the sign of Scorpio (representing the 8th house of the zodiac, which is “ruled” by the Mars), has investment implications, as the 8th house (one of the 4 main financial houses) symbolizes other people’s money, including inheritance and shared finances.

Mars will travel through Scorpio from September 23rd through November 3rd this year, before moving into the sign of Sagittarius. Mars in Scorpio signifies an increase in motivation to invest, though one must be aware of current price action, economic conditions, and overall sentiment.

This is another transit where it is very important to avoid the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), also discussed in our publication. Markets tend to rally seasonally sometime in October, leading into November, which has become the best performing month of the year in the past few decades. Be sure to stay disciplined and do not try to front-run any anticipated rally. Stick to your rules, whether you are a long-term or short-term investor/trader.

The previous Mars/Scorpio transit occurred from October 12 through November 24 in 2023, mostly during Scorpio season. The market experienced a 4.8% gain in the S&P 500 during this 6-week transit, which occurred in a favorable seasonal market period. This year the transit will take place just a bit earlier, mostly in Libra season, but will continue into the beginning of Scorpio season. Gold also experienced a boost during the 2023 Mars-Scorpio transit, which is also typical historically. There has been a major surge in the metal over the past year due to economic conditions, which will likely continue.

As we have discussed in the past, the themes of many transits and aspects tend to repeat themselves, and the energies can be felt for some time before the actual date of an event, and for a period after.

As we also noted in our 7-20-24 blog, Venus (and Mercury) are associated more with swing-trading than longer-term investing, as they quickly move through signs. Venus will transit Virgo and Libra during the Mars-Scorpio transit, while Mercury will also enter Scorpio on October 6. It will then move into Sagittarius for a short time, before re-entering Scorpio on November 18 (during its retrograde period), remaining until December 11.

A Mercury/Mars conjunction will then take place on October 20 (then again on November 12 in the sign of Sagittarius), signifying brash and decisive behavior. In the general sense, be aware of the sharp-tongued, or pushy salesman types. In the financial world, be cautious not to be overconfident, over-aggressive, or feel invincible regarding trading activity. The next Mercury Retrograde will soon follow, from November 9-29, which also traditionally causes unpredictable markets, so do not do anything you might regret.

The general belief among financial astrologers is that the defense, real estate, and commodities sectors (especially gold) should be favorable.
