Pluto in Aquarius

As covered in our recent publication, When to Buy and When to Sell: Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (now available on Amazon), and our Planet Power – Pluto, blog, dated 3-17-24, the planet Pluto plays a major role in the financial astrology arena. Pluto symbolizes major change and transformation, and only enters a sign approximately every 240 years, remaining in a sign for an average of 20 years. Its upcoming ingress into the sign of Aquarius (representing the 11th house of the zodiac), has significant financial implications, as we have mentioned in the past that the 4 major money related houses are the 2nd, 5th, 8th, and 11th.

Pluto will enter the sign of Aquarius on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 and will remain until the year 2044. Pluto has been positioned in the sign of Capricorn (an earth sign ruled by Saturn), which represents government and authority, since 2008. During the last year and a half, it has started its ingress into Aquarius (an air sign also ruled by Saturn, with Uranus), which represents the “people,” and rebellion, though two retrograde periods have created a back and forth between Capricorn and Aquarius. The difference in the two has been evident in world events, as Aquarius exudes more “free and liberating” energies involving love and finances. As noted, both are ruled by Saturn, however the restrictive nature of Capricorn is generally lifted, giving way to the fresh ideas, innovation, and unconventional measures of Aquarius.

Capricorn (ruled by the planet Saturn) represents government, secrecy, corruption, institutions, restrictions, and banking in the financial world. During the onset of Pluto in Capricorn in 2008, the Great Financial Crisis and Housing bust occurred, which many blamed on the government, and took several years to overcome. The U.S. and many global markets did experience a historically long bull market following the crises, which was mainly attributed to the long period of extremely low interest rates (symbolized by Pluto as well).

Aquarius (ruled by Saturn and Uranus) represents the people, a change in public mindset (sometimes very sudden), resistance to government controls, a possible time when hidden truths come to light, and possible rebellion. In the financial world it symbolizes technological advance, which currently includes AI, electric vehicles, alternative energy, and now digital currency.

Previous transitions of Pluto into Aquarius have correlated with the American and French Revolutions, the U.S. Declaration and Constitution, the Industrial Revolution, and the end of slavery in Britain - essentially the “rising of the people.” The recent controversial U.S. Presidential election, and many other current “themes” seem to follow this same concept.

On this occasion, this transit will also activate during a seasonally strong time of the year for the U.S. equity markets, including the nearly annual Santa Claus Rally at the end of the month.

As we have discussed in the past, the themes of many transits and aspects tend to repeat themselves, and the energies can be felt for some time before the actual date of the event, and for a period after. Pluto represents the longest “energy” time frame, so expect a long transformation involving issues including the monetary system and power struggles.

The general belief among financial astrologers is that the combination of these Pluto signifiers will ignite these Aquarian themes over the next 20 years, resulting in another Industrial Revolution, and major advances in futuristic technologies.
