North Node in Aquarius
As covered in our publication, When to Buy and When to Sell:Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (available on Amazon), the North and South Node alignment has a significantassociation with the United States Business cycle. In about 2 weeks the nodes will switch signs, with the North Node entering Aquarius and the South Node entering Leo.
The North Node (of the Moon) associates with where is one is going, fate, destiny, and a culmination of one’s life efforts. The North Node has a positive connotation, and is also referred to as Rahu.
The South Node (of the Moon) associates with where one has been, releasing, and is basically the opposite of the North Node. It has a negative connotation and is also known as Ketu.
The North and South Nodes are opposite each other in the Zodiac, and naturally move backwards in “retrograde” fashion.
The Nodes are believed to be closely related to the U.S. Business cycle, which runs for about 18.5 years. The North Node has been positioned in the sign of Pisces, while the South Node has been stationed in the sign of Virgo for the past 1.5 years. Historically, the U.S. business/economy has started to slow once the North Node leaves its high point in Leo, and reaches its low point in Aquarius. Over the past few years, the economy has been slowing (exacerbated by the pandemic), though equities have consistently rebounded from dips and corrections. Very recently, the military conflict, stubborn inflation, and consistently mixed economic reports, have resulted in most of the underlying business indicators showing decreases in production and sentiment.
This is expected to continue as the North Node transits Aquarius on July 26, 2026 (remaining through March 26, 2028), though the bottoming of the cycle normally occurs during this transit. This can, but does not necessarily relate to the U.S. Stock Market performance, as there are many factors involved, including other transits, earnings, inflation, interest rates, and consumer-related confidence.
The previous occasion when the North Node entered Aquarius, in December of 2007, was just prior to the Great Financial Crisis, incited by the bursting of the housing sub-prime mortgage bubble in 2008. Low economic business cycles were also associated with the North Node in Aquarius shortly after infamous stock market crashes of both 1929 and 1987. Following is a snapshot of the last 5 instances of this transit.
According to the popular publication “Theory of Stock Market Forecasting” by Louise McWhirter (who created the theories surrounding the Nodes), there are some exceptions to the timing of the cycle under certain planetary aspects, which is explained in the book.
When both Pluto and the North Node conjunct in the sign of Aquarius, it symbolizes the transformation of old systems into new, the rise of new technologies (innovation), and a shift in investor psychology. Expect continued volatility with these changes, as the market becomes more and more selective, paying close attention to the underlying economic and business conditions.
Previous Pluto/North Node conjunctions in Aquarius have resulted in massive societal and financial transformation, that have associated with larger market downturns, followed by significant gains. Of course, centuries ago there was no internet and algorithmic trading, when market moves took much longer to develop.
The current combination of Pluto in Aquarius, Uranus in Gemini, and Jupiter in Leo, creates a mix of societal transformation, high technology advances, and an expansion of leaders (which often associates with currency and military conflict) which, as noted, will likely implicate periods of high volatility/sharp prices moves. Sectors to focus on during this period will continue to include defense, aerospace, technology, and real estate. Real Estate, which normally comprises of a 16 to17-year cycle often closely corresponds with the nodal cycle. Those who adapt and evolve with these changing, forward-thinking, industries will benefit the most.
