Saturn Retrograde
In this installment of “Planet Power,” we will discuss the planet Saturn, known as the “Great Malefic” planet in the universe, covered in Chapter 4 of our publication “When to Buy and When to Sell;” Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (available on Amazon), and our Planet Power – Saturn blog, dated 6-1-24.
Saturn “rules” both the sign of Capricorn, representing government, secrecy, corruption, institutions, authority, and banking in the financial world, and Aquarius (with Uranus), which represents the people, a change (sometimes very sudden) in public mindset, resistance to government controls, a possible time when hidden truths come to light, and possible rebellion, which are two very different themes. Some of the main traits and energies attributed to Saturn include; rules, restriction, limitations/boundaries, responsibility, challenge, hard work, and self-control. In the financial world, Saturn symbolizes institutions, banking, real estate, and organizational structure. Sectors signified by this planet include homebuilders, engineers, and conglomerates.
Saturn spends approximately 2.5 years in each sign, and travels around the zodiac in approximately 29-30 years. Like other “outer” planets, it tends to have a profound effect during its transition, due to the extended length of stay in a sign. Saturn entered the sign of Aries for the 2nd time in the current cycle,on February 13, 2026 (where it will remain until April 12, 2028), after a retrograde back into Pisces from August 31, 2025 through February 13, 2026.
Saturn may get a “bad rap” when it comes to the “great malefic’ designation, however, as it has fierce competition from both Mars (aggression)and Pluto (destruction). With Saturn’s influence, results will not necessarily be negative if the rules are followed and necessary challenges are met with honesty and dignity.
Retrogrades are known for resets, reviews, returns, and re-evaluations, and in the case of Saturn, its retrograde is a time to take caution, and possibly review your approach to many of life’s challenges, including finance/investments, and the markets. A “gambling” mentality is not suggested during this time, as Saturn represents hard work and due diligence. Although retrograde periods can weaken a planets’ energies, its current relationship with the planet Neptune, which is also currently retrograde, suggests clarity before action. If you don’t put in the work, Saturn may get you!
The previous actual retrograde dates ranged from July 13, 2025 through November 27, 2025, during which the S&P 500 advanced almost 9% after an unusually strong September. It will turn retrograde again on July 26/27, lasting through December 10, 2026.
Based on these other current aspect combinations, and economic conditions, financial astrologers commonly believe in the long-term that the technology (AI and robotics), defense, and commodities sectors will continue to flourish, although there will be some bumps along the way, while Real estate/homebuilders may suffer a setback for the time being.
As we have discussed in the past, the themes of many transits and aspects tend to repeat themselves, and the energies can be felt for some time before and after the actual date of the event. Another Mercury retrograde period is presently occurring (June 29 – July 23), Jupiter entered the sign of Leo on June 30, and the North Node will also enter the sign of Aquarius on July 26 (historical bottom of the U.S. business cycle), all discussed in previous blogs, any of which may potentially derail the normal seasonal rally in July. These combined energies are likely to spur major reversals, in either direction (along with current Uranus energies), and result in higher volatility.
