CHART CHAT
Raising the BAR
In this edition of Chart Chat, we will discuss some very reliable sources of information to prepare for your investments or trades. In Chapter 1 of our publication When to Buy and When to Sell; Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (available on Amazon), we introduced a few of these sources, including Investor’s Business Daily, Stock Fetcher, Finviz, and today’s focus, BarChart.
For beginning investors all the way up to the most experienced and professional traders, it is extremely important to be prepared prior to entering or exiting any equity positions. Some of the information available is free, while others charge monthly or yearly subscription fees, with varying levels of access.
Though all noted sources are extremely helpful, BarChart (barchart.com) is our most preferred site to utilize for pre-market and post-market analysis, as the format is very user-friendly and easy to understand. Starting on the home page, there are Tab Options for your research including Stocks, Options, ETFs, Futures, and Currencies, which allow for a multitude of available research regarding those assets. Each provides its own set of useful information with categories, including;
Stocks to Own – A breakdown and list of highly rated stocks to own based on recent performance, momentum, and BarChart opinion.
BarChart Opinion/Analysis – A further breakdown of fundamentals and BarChart rating.
Pre and Post market trading – Closed market economic conditions to prepare for opening and/or review after closing.
Market Momentum – Momentum and Market Activity displaying the current percentages of momentum, including the various Moving Averages we discuss in our weekly Fear & Greed column.
Market Performance – Market and Sector Performance displaying the current percentages of index and sector momentum, including the various Moving Averages we discuss in our weekly Fear & Greed column.
Performance - Leaders and rankings – Lists of leading, or lagging stocks, based on various categories including volume, price movement, and rating.
Charts and Fundamentals – Full chart analysis capabilities with studies, indicators, and drawings available.
Most Active – Volume based rankings – Further breakdown of high-volume action during the current trading period.
Those are followed by more tabs including Investing, News, Tools, and Learn, providing a vast array of education for the beginner to the experienced, to assist in finding the best strategies, comparisons, current trends, news reports, trades, and much more…
Some of the most popular sections include the daily pre-market news report, which breaks down the prior day’s biggest movers, the overnight global market situation (including Europe, China, and Japan), and pre-market movers and/or earnings announcements that provide catalysts for the trading day.
There are many more uses for BarChart that are too numerous to mention. A significant amount of research is available for free, as well as a paid subscription to additional information.
