Cancer
As discussed in Chapter 4 of our publication, “When to Buy and When to Sell: Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology” (available on Amazon), and our Sign Language – Introduction blog dated 3-24-24, the zodiacal signs are part of every individual and business birth chart, based on date and time of birth, incorporation, or first public trade date on an equity index.
As documented, the general/mundane zodiac begins with the sign of Aries (as the 1st house), and the houses then move counter-clockwise around the zodiac wheel, until they reach the 12th house (Pisces), completing the cycle. Also noted is the fact that the 2nd, 5th, 8th, and 11th are the financially focused houses, though others can have minor influences. Today’s focus is the sign of Cancer, which resides in the 4th house of the zodiac (based on the Aries Rising chart). Cancer is a water, cardinal, female sign, ruled by the Moon. This sign represents the mother, emotion, nurturing, peace/tranquility, intuition, and the home. Cancer is a major family, conscientious, privacy, and protection themed sign, which focuses more on personal/family finances, and moodiness. Cancer is symbolized by the Crab, which signifies a private, protective, emotional mindset. As noted, whenever a specific sign “season” occurs, the Sun shines its energies and brings it to the forefront, and Cancer “season” (when the Sun is traveling through the sign of Cancer) runs from June 21 to July 21 in 2026. Financial categories are less represented in the 4th house, though real estate can be affected when a money planet transits through the sign, which has obvious financial overtones.
Historically, this season has a calming effect on the financial markets, and normally results in steady gains, as July has become the 2nd most productive month of the year over the past 2 decades (See our previous “Sell in May and Go Away” blogs dated 4-15-24, 4-18-25, and 4-18-26). Each year can be slightly different, of course, depending on macro events and other planetary transits/aspects. Over the years, Cancer season has been a steady force, though there tends to be lower than average trading volume in the markets due to vacationing periods.
Planetary transits this Cancer season include Jupiter’s ingress from Cancer to Leo (June 30), another Mercury Retrograde, and a Mars/Uranus conjunction. The planet Mercury (communications, information, and some forms of technology) will turn retrograde on the 29th, lasting through the rest of the season, while Jupiter remains in the sign for only the first ten days. Beware, as this may disrupt any market momentum (as it usually does), causing increased volatility and non-direction. Though the Mars/Uranus conjunction is likely to be accompanied by fireworks, occurring on Saturday, the 4th of July, the market is fortunately closed. Watch for some potential strong moves the day before or the following Monday.
Some sectors to watch for this Cancer season as the Sun, Jupiter, Mercury, and Venus transit the sign, include homebuilders, lending institutions/banks, silver, and both homeland/cyber-security. As Jupiter moves into Leo at the end of the month, gold becomes a focus once again as well. As always, avoid “emotional” decisions while trading, as it is not always easy to detach from emotion in this water sign, which is always key in the financial markets. Avoid “rushing in,” or giving in to FOMO (fear of missing out) regarding high-flying stocks, and potentially extended stocks, when considering new long equity positions. For those with long-term investing goals – stick to your plan.
