U.S. Stock Market
14 Degrees Cancer
The U.S. Stock Market (USSM) possesses its own birth chart, also known as a natal chart (pictured in blog image), based on its first trade date of May 17, 1792, at 7:52 a.m. As explained in our publication, When to Buy and When to Sell:Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (available on Amazon), and our U.S. Stock Market – Introduction blog, dated 4-27-24, this entity has a Cancer Rising sign (which is automatically considered the 1st house), a Taurus Sun sign (in the 11th house), and an Aries Moon sign (in the 10th house). A Cancer rising sign for the USSM is fitting as it represents the home (which is the 4th house in the zodiac). Traits possessed by Cancer also include sensitivity and emotion (as it is ruled by the Moon), which also signifies the home, the mother, protection, and emotions.
Please do not confuse the difference between the USSM chart and the zodiacal house order (which begins with Aries in the first house), as each individual or business chart begins with the 1st house at its ownAscendant/Rising sign. Therefore, there is often a mix between mundane/collective astrology and a natal birth chart when assessing planetary aspects and transits.
Also detailed in our publication are specific traits and attributes of the planets, signs, and houses, including the financial sectors they influence. They all tend to have some blended associations with the equity markets, though the most prolific financial houses are the 2nd, 5th, 8th, and 11th.
A significant point on the USSM birth chart occurs at 14 degrees of Cancer (ruled by the Moon). As previously noted, this Taurus degree coincides with the chart’s Sun sign, signifying nurturing, grounded, home-related energies, that translate to Real Estate and longer-term, stable investments in the financial world. Wealth creation, value, patience, and protection of possessions, are highlighted in this degree/sign, correlating with emotional peace of mind and family.
Over the last several decades, Cancer season (June 21 – July 21) has become the 2nd best performing month (referring to July) in the U.S. markets, second only to November, though it is normally followed by a tumultuous Leo and Virgo season (August and September). There are economic reasons for this seasonality as well, and the often-repeated cycles produce high probability trade opportunities, as the volatility from Gemini season usually subsides when Cancer season settles in.
Planetary aspects often play a role in the equation as they pass through this degree, including the Moon, which does so once per month, during its approximate 2 ½ day stay in that sign. The Moon also symbolizes emotional energies, which need to be kept in check when investing. On this occasion, the Moon will cross over 14 degrees of Cancer on Monday, July 13, the day before the next NEWMoon - a day to be cautious. This might, however, set up new opportunities.
Other planets pass through this degree at various times, including the Sun (once per year), which will occur on Sunday, July 5, Mercury (the planet of trading), on July 19, near the end of its retrograde, and Venus (love and money) on June 29, the first day of Mercury Retrograde, all within two weeks of each other. Please review our Fear & Greed Index – Weekly Update blog for regular updates on these faster moving planets.
Last year, in 2025, during its current transit of Cancer, the planet Jupiter (in a sign once every 12 years) passed through the 14-degree point from August 11 – August 16. The S&P 500 gained about 60 points during this period, with its strongest day occurring during the exact passing on August 12. However, Jupiter will be leaving the sign of Cancer in about one week, on June 30, as it moves into the sign of Leo, where it tends to energize the self, leaders, and gold.
With the crowded planetary space this cycle, markets are likely to remain volatile.
***Additional planetary positioning can also affect and vary the potential outcome of any transit, in addition to macro events, and Federal Reserve decisions.
In future blogs we will continue to discuss important planetary transits and aspects, and how it may relate to market movement.
