PLANET POWER
Full Moon Eclipse
As covered in our publication, When to Buy and When to Sell: Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (available on Amazon), and Planet Power – Eclipses blog, dated 8-21-25, neither the Moon nor the Sun are technically identified as planets, as they rotate around the Earth, not the Sun. Both the Moon and Sun are referred to as luminaries, but to keep it simple, we include them in this basic category. The Moon is known to revolve around the earth once approximately every 29 days (which represents 1 month), while the Sun takes 1 full year (365 days). Since there are 12 signs/houses, the Moon passes through one about every 2.5 days, while the Sun requires approximately 30 days.
What is an Eclipse? – As stated in last month’s “Eclipse” blog, the definition of an eclipse is “an obscuring of the light from one celestial body by the passage of another between it and the observer, or between it and its source of illumination.”
A Lunar Eclipse occurs during the Full Moon phase, when the Earth travels between the Sun and the Moon, causing the Earth’s shadow to be cast upon the Moon’s surface. The full position is when the Moon tends to “shine” as it is in the opposite position of the Sun, exposing its light and energies. Lunar Eclipse periods, over time, have been far more likely to incur losses in the financial markets, though a trading strategy should not be based on these trends alone. Many other factors, including news, Fed policy, seasonality, and economic conditions, can add or subtract to the probability of these results. Keep in mind that there is an “orb” (or time frame) just before and after these events where the energies are prominent, not only on the actual date.
In a few weeks, on Monday, October 6, 2025, we will experience a Lunar Eclipse in the sign of Aries (ruled by Mars), at 14 degrees. This will occur on the same date that the planet Mercury (symbolizing communication) enters the sign of Scorpio (secrecy, passion, courage, and even death/loss), joining Mars itself, which entered Scorpio (one of its two “home” signs) just recently on September 23, lasting through November 3. The combination of Mercury and Scorpio energies are strong regarding sharp-tongued comments, and aggressive action. The 14th degree associates with the sign of Capricorn, which is ruled by Saturn, which is restrictive and challenging by nature.
As is evident, this specific eclipse is full of Mars energies as it correlates with both of its “home” signs (Scorpio and Aries), expanding its normal effects. Scorpio is also the 8th house of the zodiac (1 of the 4 main financial houses), which signifies “other people’s money,” relating to investments and inheritances. Additionally, every planet and luminary has its most favorable (known as its rise or exultation), and least favorable (known as its fall or detriment) sign position around the zodiac. The Moon happens to be in its fall in Scorpio, with this eclipse adding to the possibly of violent price action through the month of October, a month where a few of the largest historical “crashes” have occurred. These events will mostly be occurring during the Libra and early Scorpio seasons, which usually precedes a strong seasonal period for the markets in November and December.
To summarize, the upcoming Lunar Eclipse would suggest volatility (signified by Aries, Mars, and Scorpio) in the general markets, in this seasonally weak period. The month of November, which has become the most lucrative month, on average, over the past few decades, follows, which may result in another “reversal.” A potential boost in the silver and home building/improvement sectors is possible, but traders should beware the potential wild price swings, keeping position sizes small and tight mental stop losses for the time being.
