Neptune Retrograde
As covered in our publication, When to Buy and When to Sell: Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (available on Amazon), and our Planet Power – Neptune, blog, dated 6-9-24, the planet Neptune does not play a major role in the financial astrology arena, though it does represent debt, which has become a significant issue in global markets.
Neptune “rules” the sign of Pisces, the 12th house of the zodiac, which is not one of the financially focused houses. Neptune is the 2nd most outer planet, representing dreams, deception, spirituality, confusion, and uncertainty.
Neptune recently entered the sign of Aries, on January 26, 2026, for the second time in the past year (as it retrograded back to Pisces between October 22, 2025 through January 25, 2026), and will now remain in the sign of Aries for about 14 years, until March of 2039. Please review our Planet Power – Neptune in Aries blog, dated 3-19-25, for more details. In that blog we indicated that this ingress would likely coincide with another market rally, before potentially giving way to negative economic conditions. As also noted, Aries is known for aggression, fast starts, acting before thinking, and rushing to judgment, but also signifies incompletion and irrational exuberance. The equities markets responded in kind, with a 20% gain in the S&P 500 through the initial 6 months of this transit.
Over the past year or so, Neptune has been moving in close alliance with the planet Saturn, forming a conjunction with that planet at 0 degrees Aries, on February 20, 2026. Many leading financial astrologers refer to this as the “Great Reset,” associated with the breakdown of long-standing institutions, structural disillusionment, and major debt concerns. World re-known financial Astrologer Ray Merriman coined it the “Aries Vortex,” which we discussed in our publication and our Trader Transits – Saturn conjunct Neptune blog, dated 1-27-26.
The previous Neptune retrograde period, from late October of 2025, through late January of 2026, resulted in a 2.5% gain in the S&P 500, as the market slowed down (with the help of Saturn restriction), while seeking more clarity of economic conditions that were revealed as weaker than originally reported.
The current retrograde period, begins this coming Tuesday, July 7, and ends on December 12, 2026. Retrogrades are known for resets, reviews, returns, and re-evaluations, and in the case of Neptune, it actually provides some clarity to any hazy and foggy thoughts, beliefs, and narratives. This is a good time to reflect, and as an investor, review, re-assess, and adjust your portfolio, paying attention to economic conditions that are again becoming clearer.
This planet tends to associate with the financial, oil, water/utilities, creative/entertainment, and healthcare sectors, which bear watching. This reflection period, together with Saturn’s restrictive energies, is a time to research and plan out any potential investments in those areas.
As we have discussed in the past, the themes of many transits and aspects tend to repeat themselves, and the energies can be felt for some time before and after the actual date of the event. Another Mercury retrograde period has begun (June 29 – July 23), Jupiter entered the sign of Leo yesterday, June 30, and the North Node will enter the sign of Aquarius (historical bottom of the U.S. business cycle) in mid-August (all discussed in previous blogs) any of which may potentially derail the normal seasonal rally in July. These combined energies are likely to spur major reversals, in either direction, and result in higher volatility.
The general belief among financial astrologers is that there may be trouble brewing this summer of 2026, and this period will be difficult to navigate regarding short and intermediate term investing.
