Cancer

As documented, the general/mundane zodiac begins with the sign of Aries (as the 1st house), and the houses then move counter-clockwise around the zodiac wheel, until they reach the 12th house, completing the cycle. Also noted is the fact that the 2nd, 5th, 8th, and 11th are the financially focused houses, though others can have minor influences. Today’s focus is the sign of Cancer, which resides in the 4th house of the zodiac (based on the Aries Rising chart). Cancer is a water, cardinal, female sign, ruled by the Moon. This sign represents the mother, emotion, nurturing, peace/tranquility, intuition, and the home. Cancer is a major family, conscientious, privacy, and protection themed sign, which focuses more on personal/family finances, and moodiness. Cancer is symbolized by the Crab, which signifies a private, protective, emotional mindset. Whenever a specific sign “season” occurs, the Sun shines its energies and brings it to the forefront, and Cancer “season” (when the Sun is traveling through the sign of Cancer) runs from June 21 to July 21 in 2025. Financial categories are less represented in the 4th house, though real estate can be affected when a money planet transits through the sign, which has obvious financial overtones.
Historically, this season has a calming effect on the financial markets, and normally results in steady gains, as July has become the 2nd most productive month of the year over the past 2 decades (See “Sell in May and Go Away” blog dated 4-15-24 and 4-18-25). Each year can be slightly different, of course, depending on macro events and other planetary transits/aspects.
Planetary transits this Cancer season include Jupiter’s ingress to this sign, and Uranus’ ingress to Gemini – two major events. The planet Mercury (communications, information, and some forms of technology) will also pass through Cancer, forming a brief conjunction with Jupiter as they both enter this sign on June 9th and 10th. Mercury will only remain in this sign until June 26, 2025, which is a very brief stay. The planet Venus (money) will enter Cancer on June 17, 2024, remaining until July 11, 2024, almost one full month. This signifies a continuance of the steady gains that have been realized in the past. The energies of Cancer season are expanded with the presence of Jupiter, so expect larger than usual emotional reactions regarding the markets and political events. There will also be a short Mars square Uranus transit at the end of this week, signifying a heightened possibility of military conflict, that always shakes the markets short term, especially this Friday and next Monday. Be mindful of these possible events as you invest or trade.
Some sectors to watch for this Cancer season as the Sun, Jupiter, Mercury, and Venus transit the sign, include homebuilders, lending institutions/banks, silver, and both homeland/cyber-security. As always, avoid “emotional” decisions while trading, as it is not always easy to detach from emotion in this water sign, which is always key in the financial markets. Avoid “rushing in,” or giving in to FOMO (fear of missing out) regarding high-flying stocks, and potentially extended stocks, when considering new long equity positions.
