Jupiter oppose Pluto
As covered in our publication, When to Buy and When to Sell: Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (available on Amazon), Jupiter plays a major role in the financial arena in astrology, symbolizing expansion, abundance, and good fortune, but also exacerbating the negative on occasion. Please review our Planet Power – Jupiter Effect blog, dated 3-27-25, and Trader Transits – Jupiter in Leo blog, dated 6-12-26, for more details.
Jupiter is the largest planet in our universe, and changes zodiac signs approximately once every 12-13 months, taking about 12-14 years to complete one rotation around the Sun. This divides to slightly over 1 year, on average, positioned in each zodiac sign. This planet is known as the “Great Benefic,” and tends to represent industry/sector change with each transit into a new sign.
Some of the main traits and energies (including financial) attributed to Jupiter include; expansion, fortune, growth, and even luck. There is also the concept of the “Jupiter Effect,” a belief that the planet provides gains for sectors related to the sign in which is inhabits.
Jupiter has completed its recent transit through the sign of Cancer (4th house of the zodiac, representing the home, protection, and emotions), which is ruled by the Moon – where it remained for a little over a year. In summary, expected gains in silver developed, as the metal reached all-time highs in early 2026, and home-related industries experienced gains that were somewhat tempered by higher interest rates and military conflict. The square aspect with Saturn (restriction and challenge) and Neptune (mystery and uncertainty), who were both present in the sign of Pisces (at times in retrograde) resulted in high volatility and unstable markets in the last few months of the transit.
Jupiter moved into the sign of Leo (5th house of the zodiac, a financially-based house representing creativity, investments, and fun), which is ruled by the Sun, just a few days ago on June 30, where it will remain until late July of 2027. Sectors to focus on during this period include gold, creativity-themed stocks reflecting art & entertainment, and self-related industries including Consumer Discretionary, and travel.
As discussed in our Planet Power – Pluto blog, dated 3-17-24, and Trader Transits – Pluto in Aquarius blog, dated 11-8-24, Pluto represents destruction, transformation, contraction, and societal change, quite the opposite of Jupiter. The recent square aspect with Saturn and Neptune will also be revisited during the summer, likely placing more restrictions on the financial markets. This combination of energies may again create friction, like a tug of war, and indecision, with consistent swings in price action - so beware this likelihood of uncertainty over the next few months. The general belief among financial astrologers is that markets will be tame for a while, as the South Node also moves into Leo, another known time of slower business/economy, in late July.
The Pluto-Jupiter cycle is known as a “Wealth Cycle,” and the last time they transited Aquarius and Leo respectively, in 1789, the U.S. Treasury was formed. The planets will soon form an opposition aspect on July 20, which would be considered the low point of the cycle, with a negative connotation to global finances, mainly based on debt.
Previous Jupiter oppose Pluto periods have been mixed, but tend to align with massive changes, including the dot-com bubble in 2001. The global military conflict atmosphere is likely to continue, with Pluto in Aquarius and Uranus in Gemini, as compromise is not a trait of these transits. This situation always creates uncertainty and angst in the financial markets.
There is also an interesting 4-planet aspect occurring on July 20, known as Barbault’s Basket (by the design it forms on an Astrology wheel chart). This configuration places Neptune at 4 degrees of Aries, Uranus at 4 degrees of Gemini, Jupiter at 4 degrees of Leo, and Pluto at 4 degrees of Aquarius. In addition to the Pluto-Jupiter opposition, other aspects between these planets form a variety of sextiles (60 degrees of separation) and trines (120 degrees of separation), which creates power struggles, confusion, and unpredictability.
Though industries including metals, especially gold, other physical assets, and gambling stocks tend to perform well, Jupiter in Leo is not historically a seasonally favorable time for the overall equity markets, as they are more vulnerable to risk taking and over-confidence. The stock market performance of this transit has a history of ups and downs, usually leaning toward bearish sentiment. On the last occasion, from July 14, 2014, through August 11, 2015, the S&P 500 only gained 120 points from beginning to end (almost 13 months).
Be cautious of becoming too confident or optimistic with trades and investments, as Jupiter in Leo can expand those traits, causing larger losses than usual. Always follow your rules and risk management guidelines.
