PLANET POWER
Venus Retrograde
In this installment of “Planet Power,” we will discuss the planet Venus, known as the Planet of Love, which is introduced in Chapter 4 of our publication “When to Buy and When to Sell;” Combining Easy Indicators, Charts, and Financial Astrology (available on Amazon).
As introduced in our Planet Power – Venus blog, dated 7-20-24, Venus is the 2nd closest planet to the Sun, and takes approximately 365 days to travel through the zodiac. This divides to about one month, on average, positioned in each sign. Venus is an important financial planet, and due to its temporary length of stay in a sign, its position is usually considered for swing trading, along with the planet Mercury.
Some of the main traits and energies attributed to Venus include; love, values, vanity, luxury, and overall positive attitude toward money. In the financial world it represents possessions and income. Sectors symbolized by this planet include financials/banking, luxury items, beauty/fashion, copper, and some currencies including the U.S. Dollar and cryptocurrency, which it co-rules with the planet Uranus.
Venus “rules” the signs of Taurus and Libra, which are the 2nd and 7th houses of the zodiac, respectively. Its alignment with Taurus (2nd house), a grounded earth sign, also representing one’s income/money/prosperity, is usually very favorable, as it was during the Venus transit from May 19 – June 11, 2024, especially while Jupiter remained in its last days of Taurus.
On the weekend of October 3-4, however, Venus will turn retrograde (until Nov 14), which is the illusion in the sky that an entity is moving backwards. As previously defined, this action causes the energies associated with that entity to stall, weaken, and sometimes reverse. Venus retrograde has historically included sharp, sometimes lengthy, pullbacks in the equity markets. Caution and short-term strategies should be planned for this event. The previous Venus retrograde (Mar 1 – Apr 12, 2025), in the sign of Aries (ruled by Mars), was extremely volatile, and resulted in a 9.9% drop in the S&P 500, which teetered on “correction” territory. The upcoming retrograde occurs with Venus positioned in the sign of Scorpio (8th house of the zodiac/aggressive energies and investments themes – also ruled by Mars). During this period, we suggest keeping your position size smaller than normal, as volatility should be ramped up with these energies, combined with the mid-term elections (also historically volatile due to uncertainty).
Financial astrologers commonly believe that sectors such as financial, military/defense, healthcare, and agriculture may be ones to focus on during these current conditions, which include high food and energy costs, and continued geo-political conflict. Consumer Discretionary also remains in the spotlight, potentially continuing to the downside, as recreational/travel and luxury continue to struggle with the high energy prices related to the ongoing military conflict. Any rallies may be short-lived until this period passes and “caution” should be taken.
